About
A whiteboard for diagrams that stays on your device
Whiteboard Diagram is a free whiteboard for drawing diagrams: sketch freely, or use a diagram kind that knows its own rules and lays itself out. It runs entirely in your browser.
What it does
- Ten kinds of diagram: flowcharts, swimlanes, mind maps, org charts, sequence diagrams, UML class diagrams, ER diagrams, state diagrams and architecture diagrams, plus kanban and retro boards and plain shapes. Each has its own shapes and connectors, and the diagram guide explains when to use which.
- Diagrams that keep their shape: mind maps, org charts and sequence diagrams arrange themselves as you add to them; Auto layout tidies the others. Connectors stay attached when you move things.
- A real whiteboard: sticky notes, a pen and highlighter, text, images, frames, and a hand-drawn look for any shape.
- Mermaid in and out: paste Mermaid text to get a diagram you can edit, or export a board as Mermaid to put in your docs.
-
Present and share as files: present your frames one by one, and export
PNG, SVG, PDF or the board itself as a
.wbd.jsonfile. - Templates to start from, find across the board, and an element list that reaches everything from the keyboard.
Your boards stay yours
There’s no account and no server holding your work. Boards are saved in your browser as you draw, and they never leave your device unless you export them. Once the page has loaded, it works offline too. The privacy policy has the details.
Because boards live in one browser, keep a backup of the ones that matter: Settings → Backup saves every board in one file, which you can import in another browser or on another computer.
Getting started
- Pick a diagram kind from the Diagram menu at the top.
- Click a shape in the panel on the left, then click on the board. Double-click anything to type.
- Press A (or pick a connector), then drag from one shape to another to connect them.
- Or start from a template: Board menu → New from template…
Every tool has a keyboard shortcut; Settings → Keyboard shortcuts lists them all.
Built with open source
Whiteboard Diagram is built on open-source libraries and fonts, among them React, Dexie, Rough.js and ELK for auto layout. Their licences and copyright notices are in the third-party licences file.
